The FN action you are looking at is probably a 640 rather than a 1600 or 1640. And in a rifle that may be over 50 years old! They shoot, the triggers are easily worked, and if you get the 1600, are very lightweight. But rest assured, if you buy a 1600/1640 you will be buying one of the nicest, smoothest 98 actions available - period. It does appear to be short of some of the calibres available for each model. There are still many hunters toting those old workhorses in the Swedish forests and they would never ever swap them for anything more "modern". Otherwise it is a really great and accurate hunting rifle with hundreds of thousands of moose on its list of qualifications. A locking catch moves in and out of a notch in the bolt with every repeating cycle and should there be snow or debris in that notch the bolt will likely fall to the ground if the rifle is carried with the bolt open and the barrel pointing upwards. The only flaw with the rifle is the bolt locking mechanism. The 1640 was considered a very expensive and labor intensive model to manufacture and it saw its demise in 1967 and in 1968 the model 1900 was introduced. Prior to 1957 the floor plate was made of steel, but from 1957 and later it was made of cast aluminum due to financial reasons.
